Alameda Bicycle began operations in 1969; my family took over in 1987.

I worked weekends and summers starting when I was twelve - apparently labor laws don't apply to family outfits. I took over full-time and allowed my mom to retire in 2002.

We've now got an extended family business - everyone working here is given a voice and respected for their unique skills. And we work hard!

It's important to have familiar faces that remember your story, so we go to great lengths to retain our staff. We pay medical insurance and offer generous vacation benefits, because it's important to keep the vibe genuinely positive.

I'm a believer that small businesses are integral weaves in a strong local community. We donate to all non-profits and public schools in Alameda and Oakland. We visit our elementary schools every year with Books 4 Bikes to stimulate reading and exercise. We operate and manage BART's bike stations, and offer free classes and rides throughout the year to help you maximize your cycling enjoyment.
